Caring for Rattan Canes

Rattan is a natural fibrous grass that requires proper care and storage to maintain its flexibility, shape, and longevity.

Hydrating Rattan Canes

Rattan needs an optimal level of moisture to stay supple and extend its lifespan. To keep your canes in good condition, hydrate them at least once a month.

How to Hydrate:

Stand the cane upright in about one inch of water for 6–8 hours.

The cane will naturally absorb moisture through its tip via capillary action—this is sufficient hydration.

Afterward, allow the tip to air dry completely.

Important:

Do NOT submerge the entire cane in water or soak it in a bathtub. Excessive moisture can damage the adhesive in the handle and weaken the rattan, just as dryness does.

For uncoated or natural-finish canes, you can also hydrate by lightly wetting your hands and rubbing the dampness onto the exposed shaft. This can be done periodically in addition to tip hydration.

Storing Rattan Canes

Avoid dry environments.

Store canes away from air conditioning or heating vents or any other source of dry air.
